Welcome to
Buddhist Maha Vihara
A Non-Profit Buddhist Organization preserving over 130 years of Sri Lankan Theravada Buddhist tradition and wisdom.
Affectionately known as the Brickfields Buddhist Temple (Sinhala: මහින්ද්රා බෞද්ධ පන්සල | Chinese: 十五碑锡兰佛寺), the Buddhist Maha Vihara stands as a serene refuge in the heart of Kuala Lumpur. Founded in 1894 by the Śāsana Abhiwurdhi Wardhana Society (SAWS), we are the oldest registered Buddhist Society in the Klang Valley and the focal point for the city's annual Wesak festival.
Our Pillars
The Buddhist Maha Vihara (BMV) stands as a beacon of Theravada Buddhism, rooted in three foundational pillars:
Dhamma
Teachings of the Buddha. Guiding us on the path to enlightenment through meditation, study sessions, and teachings.
Dana
Generosity and Compassion. Fostering community support through acts of giving to nurture growth and well-being.
Sangha
Monastic Community. Monks and nuns offering spiritual guidance, teachings, and inspiring through their way of life.
Our Welfare Initiatives
